Tony Ashwin Kanal (produced on August 27, 1970) is a British-American musician, record producer and songwriter. His musical work beyond the group comprises creating and songwriting with artists including reggae vocalist Elan Atias and No Doubt bandmate Gwen Stefani, amongst others.
Kanal’s dad indicated that Kanal learn to play the saxophone because it was the former’s favourite instrument, so he purchased one for Kanal. Kanal afterwards learned the best way to play the bass guitar from his schoolmate Dave Carpenter. After viewing one of third wave ska band No Doubt’s early shows, he joined the group as its bassist.
