Marcel Theo Hall (created April 8, 1964), better known by his stage name Biz Markie, is an American rapper, beatboxer, DJ, comic, singer, reality television persona, and commercial representative. He’s famous for his single “Just a Friend”, an American Top 10 hit in 1989. In 2008, “Just a Friend” made #100 on VH1’s list of the 100 best hip hop songs ever. Biz Markie now lives in Howard County, Maryland and has helped support County Executive Ken Ulman during his fundraisers. Markie continues to be called “the Clown Prince of Hip Hop”.
In 2003 he appeared in the international television series titled Kung Faux performing a number of voice-over characters featured in various episodes. In 2005, Biz detoured from his recording obligations to appear on the initial season of the television show Celebrity Fit Club which challenged stars to shed weight with a mixture of diet and exercise. Biz Markie lost more weight than anybody else in the contest. That year, he was also in a episode of The Andy Milonakis Show. Biz additionally does the beatboxing section, Biz’s Beat of the Day on the Nick Jr. show Yo Gabba Gabba!. Biz Markie started 2008 opening for Chris Rock’s “No Apologies” tour. Biz Markie’s performance contains spinning records including old school hip hop to Lynyrd Skynyrd and then performing “Just a Friend”. In December 2009, Biz Markie appeared in a RadioShack advertisement, duplicating the line: “Oh Snap! Imagine what I saw!” from his song “Just A Friend”. The exact same year saw his introduction with Andy Milonakis in television advertisements for the commercial Internet service, Tune Up.
