John Stanley Bartley, often credited as Jon Bartley, is a New Zealand-born American, who is a resident of Canada. Bartley is an cinematographer who is best known for his work on television series such as Lost and The X Files and feature films such as The X Files: I Want to Believe and The Chronicles of Riddick.Bartley was raised in Wellington, where he didn't get to watch television until his early teens, and even then only one channel was broadcasting in New Zealand. In an interview he said that National Velvet and The Bridge on the River Kwai were two of his favorite films when he was young. In 1995, Bartley received his first Emmy Award nomination in the category "Outstanding Individual Achievement in Cinematography for a Series" for the The X Files episode "One Breath," he lost the award to Tim Suhrstedt for Chicago Hope. Bartley was nominated the following year in the same category, and won the award. Bartley is currently nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Cinematography For A One Hour Series category, for the Lost episode "The Constant."

Quote
1
If you're doing a series, you have to have a look for it. Technically...what should happen...people should flip around the channels and immediately know what show they're watching without even looking up TV guide.
2
On the dynamic of Lost and its creator: The show's great. J.J. Abrams is a filmmaker like you wouldn't expect. He's like the quiet guy who lives next-door.
3
Those first 3 years of The X-Files (1993) were special and very creative; winning an Emmy for the the work I did was unexpected but truly memorable. As the years went on, I think what happened at FOX was X-Files became Rupert Murdoch favorite show, so no one on the corporate level said "no" and the budget kept growing...
