James Edward Burrows (created December 30, 1940) is an American television director that is working in television since the 1970s. Burrows was born in La, California, the son of Ruth (Levinson) and Abe Burrows, who had been a well known composer, director and writer. He also visited the Yale School of Drama. Burrows’ design is famous for his comic timing, intricate blocking for performers, and integrating more advanced light in television studio shoots. He’s also credited for enlarging the typical multi-camera television shoot from a few cameras. He also appears as a television director in the 2005 HBO show The Comeback. Burrows played himself to the show. Burrows continues to be nominated for fifteen Directors Guild of America awards, as well as for an Emmy Award annually between 1980 and 2005, excluding 1997.
