Don Gummer (created December 12, 1946) is an American sculptor. His early work concentrated on tabletop and wall-mounted sculpture, however in the mid-1980s he transferred his interest to big freestanding works, generally in bronze. In the 1990s he added various other substances, like stainless steel, aluminum and stained glass. His interest in big outside works also led him to an interest in public artwork.

He studied at Ben Davis High School, Indianapolis, after which in the Herron School of Art (also in Indianapolis) from 1964 to 1966. Gummer’s first solo show was in 1973. His work has been exhibited in group shows. Gummer’s commissioned works have contained Primary Compass (2000), a site-specific outside long-term sculpture in the Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio as well as a sculpture/fountain in Historic New Harmony, New Harmony, Indiana. “Main Separation”, a long-term facility in the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, was finished in 2006. Gummer is married to actress Meryl Streep. Gummer and Streep are active philanthropists who give to a variety of arts organizations and educational institutions, including Vassar College, Opus School in Harlem, as well as the Silver Mountain Arts Foundation. They will have four kids: musician Henry (his professional name is Henry Wolfe), Louisa, and performers Mamie and Grace.
