Vanessa Downing (born 1958) is an Australian character actress of theatre and screen; she has also done recordings including singing and voice-over. She was educated in Sydney, attended the Australian theatre for young people, and holds a Masters Degree in English Literature from University of Sydney.
At the age of 14 joined the Australian Theatre for Young People.

Her roles in theatre and on screen included parts in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, The Threepenny Opera and Sons and Daughters (1982).

Was out of work for almost a year so to stave off depression she joined the Sydney Philarmonic Choir.

Educated at Sydney University and after graduating went on to a masters degree in English Literature.

When informed of acceptance for her role of Pippa in Home and Away (1988), she was working as a singer in a six piece accappella group called The Madrigals.
