Perri Reid (produced Perri Arlette McKissack), best known by her former stage name, Pebbles, is an American dance pop and urban contemporary singer songwriter. She created the modern R&B group TLC (group). She’s now an Atlanta-based minister named Sister Perri. While working at an Oakland, California property office she met contractor George L. Smith. Smith bankrolled Pebbles with $80,000 for a demo cassette and video for “Mercedes Boy”. The demo and video generated a contract with MCA. Smith and Pebbles wed in 1985 and made their house in San Francisco. She also sang background vocals on Paula Abdul’s record Forever Your Girl in 1988. In July 1989 Pebbles wed L.A. Reid. She formed the Atlanta-based production firm Pebbitone and founded her very own record label, Savvy Records. Pebbitone managed TLC, that has been signed with LaFace Records, L.A. Reid’s record label. When TLC filed for bankruptcy in 1995, asserting Pebbles had mismanaged their funds,[5] the ensuing battle damaged Pebbles’ union.
