O-Lan Jones (born May 23, 1950) is an American actress. She is perhaps most known for her role as Esmeralda in Edward Scissorhands. Her first name comes from the heroine of the novel, The Good Earth, by Pearl S. Buck. During her marriage to playwright/actor Sam Shepard, she was billed as O-Lan Shepard.Jones's father deserted the family when his daughter was a child. Her mother, Scarlett Johnson, married Johnny Dark. In 1979, Scarlett Johnson Dark suffered a stroke and aphasia.
