He was an actor, known for Evening Magazine (1976), Live with Kelly and Michael (1988) and R2PC: Road to Park City (2000). He was married to Bunny Erhardt and Janet Louise Nicoletti. He died on October 26, 2007 in Upper Black Eddy, Pennsylvania, USA.

Asked by Art Moore in 1976 what his TV persona should be, Erhardt simply replied, " Just call me 'Chef Tell.'" He had gained the nickname of "Tell" after playing the main character of the play Wilhelm Tell in school.

In 1970, Tell became a Master Chef in Western Germany. In the same year, he was named Germany's "Chef of the Year," having lead his team of chefs to the Gold Medal at the annual Culinary Olympics.
