Mary Meigs was born on April 27, 1917 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. She was an actress, known for Strangers in Good Company (1990). She died on November 25, 2002 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Met girlfriend Barbara Deming (poet, essayist and human-rights activist) in 1954 and moved to Cape Cod with her. Began a 15 year affair with novelist Marie-Claire Blais and moved with her to Montreal in the 1970s.

Was raised in Philadelphia and Washington. She attended Bryn Mawr College (graduated in 1939) and the Art Students League in New York.

Brother Arthur died in 1996. Brother Wister died in 1997. Twin sister Sarah died of Parkinson's in 1998. At the time of her death, Mary was writing a book about her sister.

Primarily a painter and illustrationist, she began writing at the age of 64. She wrote five books which were mostly essays, biographies and memoirs.
