SkylArk (1976-77) and Henry's Cat (1983–95) and for the Trio chocolate biscuit advertisements shown in the UK during the early 1980s. However, he also produced a BAFTA and Academy award-winning short film Great (1975), a tongue-in-cheek biography of Isambard Kingdom Brunel. # Quote 1 Great illustrators don't always make great animators. I've known people who couldn't draw at all who were great animators. You can always spot the ones with real talent. They don't listen to you. (in a 2001 interview with the Guardian) 2 Great animation can never save a bad story but a good story can save bad animation.
# Fact 1 He started out as a graphic artist in advertising, before joining the innovative Larkin Studio in the early 1950s, where he made his earliest cartoons. 2 Formed Biographic in 1954, which turned out hundreds of advertising shorts fort television and cinema. This enabled him to finance his setting up of Bob Godfrey Productions in 1964. 3 Served with the Royal Marines during World War II and took part in the D-Day landings in Normandy. 4 Worked as a graphic artist in the 1930's, before joining the GB Animation Unit, financed by the Rank Organisation. 5 His voice became well-known in Britain through his Esso Blue commercials. 6 His cousin is writer A.C.H. Smith . 7 He was awarded the M.B.E. (Member of the Order of The British Empire) in 1986 for his services to the Film Industry in Australia.
