Albert Camus (French: [albɛʁ kamy] (13px ); 7 November 1913 – 4 January 1960) was a French Nobel Prize winning author, journalist, and philosopher. His views contributed to the rise of the philosophy known as absurdism. He wrote in his essay "The Rebel" that his whole life was devoted to opposing the philosophy of nihilism while still delving deeply into individual freedom.Camus did not consider himself to be an existentialist despite usually being classified as one, even during his own lifetime. In an interview in 1945, Camus rejected any ideological associations: "No, I am not an existentialist. Sartre and I are always surprised to see our names linked...".Camus was born in French Algeria to a Pied-Noir family, and studied at the University of Algiers. In 1949, Camus founded the Group for International Liaisons within the Revolutionary Union Movement after his split with Garry Davis's Citizens of the World movement. The formation of this group, according to Camus, was intended to "denounce two ideologies found in both the USSR and the USA" regarding their idolatry of technology.Camus was awarded the 1957 Nobel Prize for Literature "for his important literary production, which with clear-sighted earnestness illuminates the problems of the human conscience in our times".

[on 'I Want to Live!'] The story had to be told to the whole world. The world should see it and hear it. 4
Politics and the fate of mankind are formed by men without ideals and without greatness. Those who have greatness within them do not go in for politics.
5
Without freedom, no art; art lives only on the restraints it imposes on itself, and dies of all others.
6
An intellectual is someone whose mind watched itself.
7
A free press can, of course, be good or bad, but, most certainly, without freedom, it will never be anything but bad.
8
Don't wait for the Last Judgement. It takes place every day.
9
Man is the only creature that refuses to be what he is.
10
Autumn is a second spring when every leaf's a flower.

Albert Camus had intense Motorphobia (fear of automobiles), and thus avoided riding in cars as much as possible. He, instead, took trains everywhere, as much as possible. Interestingly enough, he died in a car accident, with return train ticket in his coat pocket, after a friend persuaded him to ride in his car.
