Knew Bob Dylan in Minnesota in 1959 and were close during his years growing up in Minnesota. The two were in touch for several years after. She is believed to be the inspiration for "the Girl from the North Country" which Dylan indicated on his Freewheeling Bob liner notes was conceived in 1959. She recorded several songs by Dylan in her apartment which are widely distributed by collectors. "Bonnie, why did you cut my hair" was written after she cut his hair at his request before he was to visit his parents in Hibbing.
