The Residents Bio/Wiki, Net Worth, Married 2018

The Residents are an American art collective best known for avant-garde music and multimedia works. Since their first official release, Meet The Residents (1974), the group has since released over sixty albums, numerous music videos and short films, three CD-ROM projects, and ten DVDs. They have undertaken seven major world tours and scored multiple films. Pioneers in exploring the potential of CD-ROM and similar technologies, the Residents have won several awards for their multimedia projects. Ralph Records, a record label focusing on avant-garde music, was started by the band.Throughout the group's existence, the individual members have ostensibly attempted to operate under anonymity, preferring instead to have attention focused on their art output. Much outside speculation and rumor has focused on this aspect of the group. In public, the group appears silent and costumed, often wearing eyeball helmets, top hats and tuxedos — a long-lasting costume now recognized as its signature iconography. Its albums generally fall into two categories: deconstructions of Western popular music, or complex conceptual pieces, composed around a theme, theory or plot. The group is noted for surrealistic lyrics and sound, disregard for conventional music composition, and the over the top, theatrical spectacle of their live performances.

#Trademark
1For public appearances and concerts, the four Residents appear in creative costumes, most frequently three eyeball masks with top hats and one black skull mask.
#Fact
1Matt Groening is a big fan. In 1979 he wrote "The True Story of The Residents".
2The group is known to perform eccentric treatments of traditional material. On the b-side of their 12" record "Diskomo" (a disco medley of songs from their album "Eskimo") was a project (with long time collaborator Philip Charles Lithman, aka Snakefinger) entitled "Goosebump"; four tracks based on Mother Goose rhymes with all the music originating from toy musical instruments, and then processed through electronic mixing effects.
3The eyeballs have been retired. There have been three sets over the years: the originals, the new ones made in the 90s and the performance ones used for the Wormwood tour, and all the tours after. One of the performance eyes was auctioned off on Ebay.
4Claim to have gotten their name after sending an audition tape to Warner Brothers records without any name. It was mailed back to them, addressed to "The Residents".
5So secretive towards their actual identities, that they consented to a magazine interview, only on the condition that it be done via conference call telephone connection.
6Originally they performed on stage with full head masks made to resemble eyeballs. After one mask was stolen while on tour, it was replaced with a mask resembling a human skull. The "line up" has remained as such.
7Have appeared as characters in various comic books and graphic novels by Matt Howarth.
