Jim Ring (b 1954) is an English writer, working in print and on screen.He read biochemistry at Bath University before switching to English at Brasenose College, Oxford, where he was an exhibitioner. In the ‘eighties he worked as an advertising executive, successively at The Creative Business, Butler Dennis Garland, Yellowhammer, TBWA and WCRS. He published the Financial Times’ textbook on the industry, Advertising on Trial, in 1993.Erskine Childers (1996) a biography of the author of The Riddle of the Sands, was the winner of the Marsh prize. How the English Made the Alps (2000) celebrated the contribution made by the English to Alpine mountaineering, tourism and winter sports.
