Christian K. Stead was born on October 17, 1932 in Auckland, New Zealand as Christian Karlson Stead. He is a writer, known for Sleeping Dogs (1977) and The Making of 'Sleeping Dogs' (2004). He has been married to Kathleen Elizabeth Roberts since 1955. They have three children.
An award-winning poet and critic and a member of the New Zealand Labour Party. Stead's first novel, "Smith's Dream" (1971), was the basis for "Sleeping Dogs" and deals with politics in New Zealand.
