1A former cattle rancher, he turned to acting in and directing westerns in 1917, appearing with his trained horse. During the sound era he became a prolific writer and occasional producer/director of vehicles for Gene Autry, Tex Ritter and others, often for RKO, Monogram and Republic. Retired in 1947 to publish his autobiography "Written, Produced and Directed by Oliver Drake".
2He had a ranch near Pearblossom, Califormia--in the Antelope Valley--that was used for location shooting, mostly for westerns, from the the late 1940s through the late 1950s.
