Edward Wessex was born on March 10, 1964 in Westminster, London, England as Edward Anthony Richard Louis Mountbatten-Windsor. He is a producer and writer, known for Crown and Country (1998), Edward on Edward (1996) and Varian's War (2001). He has been married to Sophie Rhys-Jones since June 19, 1999. They have two children.

After their marriage, the Earl and Countess of Wessex announced that (with Queen Elizabeth II's permission) any future children of theirs will be "Prince" or "Princess" and "His/Her Royal Highness", but will be styled "Lord" or "Lady," as would children of a peer. The reasoning behind this decision was to give a low profile to their children and shield them from media interest.

He will eventually become Duke of Edinburgh, however the dukedom of Edinburgh must pass like any normal dukedom first to his brothers, their sons, then him. Prince Charles will inherit the title, which will merge with the crown when/if he ascends the throne and then will it be granted to Edward.

In December 2001 his wife Sophie underwent surgery after suffering an ectopic pregnancy -- where the baby develops outside the womb. She was about 7 weeks pregnant. Their first child Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary Windsor, was born on 8 November 2003.
