Public opinion statistician who pioneered in techniques of scientific public opinion sampling. Founder in 1935 and chairman of the American Institute of Public Opinion, or Gallup Poll, based in Princeton, New Jersey, which gained international prominence after correctly predicting victory for 'Franklin D. Roosevelt' in the 1936 presidential election. Chairman of the Board of Gallup Organization Inc., founded in 1958 to conduct market research. Taught journalism at Drake, Northwestern, and Columbia universities.
