Amy Steel's acting career began in West Chester, Pennsylvania in 1973 when she attended Westtown school of dramatic arts. After two summers of dramatic training, Amy joined Barley-Sheaf Players and starred in two productions. She temporarily left the theatre to further pursue her academic career at the prestigious Kent school in Kent, Conneticut. ...
[recalling her audition for and feelings towards Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)] I had to show up at the audition and pretend I was walking through the woods, screaming. And it was total typecasting--the outdoorsy, strong girl with blonde hair. And when I got it, it was great. It's nice to be wanted in any capacity, and "Friday the 13th" was cool. I just said, "It's sequel time!"
In January 2004 appeared at the Chiller Theater Convention in New Jersey, alongside her Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) co-star Betsy Palmer.

As of 2009, was studying at a university.

Serves as a marriage and family therapist intern at InBalance in the Santa Monica Mountains. She also has a private practice in Calabasas, specializing in adolescent and mid-life transitions.

One of her first roles was as "Roo" in a production of A.A. Milne's "The House at Pooh Corner", co-starring alongside an eight-year-old Nelson Aspen ("Piglet").
Was going to star in the third installment of the Friday the 13th series reprising her role as "Ginny" from Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) but her agent at the time told her not to sign on as she was getting "bigger and better roles" but has since said; that she wishes that she had accepted the opportunity to reprise her role in part 3.

Her character on Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) (Ginny) was supposed to be killed by Jason, but the producers later decided during filming that they needed to have someone survive.
