Ledisi Anibade Young /ldsi/ (produced 1972 or 1978) is an American R&B and jazz recording artist, songwriter and performer. Ledisi is famous for her jazz affected vocals. In 1995, Ledisi formed the group called Anibade. In addition to her group, Anibade, Ledisi released an album titled “Take Time”. The record got important airplay from local radio stations. She’s received a total of eight Grammy Award nominations.
In 2000, Ledisi released her first record, titled “Soulsinger: The Revival”. Ledisi and her group toured in 2001, performing various shows. In 2002, Ledisi released her second record, “Feeling Orange but Sometimes Blue”. The record won her an award for “Outstanding Jazz Album” at the California Music Awards.
In 2008, Ledisi released her Christmas record, “It Is Christmas”. In addition, it garnered three Grammy nominations in the 54th Grammy Awards including for Best R&B Album. In 2014, she released her sixth album “The Truth” to critical acclaim and average sales. She’s set to portray the celebrated gospel singer Mahalia Jackson in the Martin Luther King, Jr. biopic entitled “Selma”.
