Erick Sermon (created November 25, 1968) is an American rapper, musician, and record producer. Sermon is best known as half of late-1980s–1990s hip hop group EPMD and for creation work. He was born in Bay Shore, NY, and now resides in Islandia, NY. The Green Eyed Bandit additionally made multiple solo records and records. He started recording solo albums for Def Jam in 1993; in 1997, he rejoined EPMD. EPMD disbanded a second time in 1999. In 2000, Sermon moved over to J Records, and released the album Music the next year. The album’s first single, “Music”, featured guest vocals from Marvin Gaye, which Sermon apparently culled from unreleased records seen in a tiny record shop in London. Sermon’s second record on J Records, React, was launched in 2002. In a June 30, 2004 interview with HipHopDX.com, Sermon told music journalist Bayer Mack, “Matters were not right at J Records. Clive Davis and them do not believe in promotion. He additionally said Busta Rhymes and Wyclef Jean had similar problems with J Records. The record was powered by the single “Feel It” (which featured a sample of reggae/R&B vocalist Sean Paul), a tune which became a success in the United States. Within an interview, he said that he would step aside and attempt to get coming artists in the limelight. Nevertheless, Sermon hasn’t ended in the music business, as he made the tune “Goldmine” on Busta Rhymes’ record, The Big Bang in 2006. Shortly after, Sermon has recorded “Do Not Make No Sense” with Def Squad.
