Wesley Earl “Wes” Craven (created August 2, 1939) is an American film director, writer, producer, and performer known for his work on horror movies, especially slasher films. Craven also directed the whole “Scream” series, featuring Ghostface. Craven also directed “My Soul to Take”.
Craven left the academic world for the more profitable part of pornographic movie director. While his part in Deep Throat is undisclosed, the majority of his early known work called for composing, film editing or both. Craven’s works often share a common investigation of the essence of reality. A Nightmare on Elm Street, for instance, dealt with all the effects of dreams in actual life. New Nightmare “brushes against” (but doesn’t quite break) the fourth wall with celebrity Heather Langenkamp play herself as she’s haunted from the villain of the movie where she once starred. The Serpent and the Rainbow impersonates a guy who cannot differentiate between nightmarish visions and reality. In Scream, the characters often reference horror movies much like their scenarios, and at one point Billy Loomis tells his girlfriend that life is no more than a huge picture. This theory was highlighted in the sequels, as copycat stalkers reenact the events of a brand new movie concerning the Woodsboro killings happening in Scream. Scream contained a scene mentioning the well known Richard Gere urban legend. Craven said in interviews which he received calls from representatives telling him when he left that scene in, he’d never work again. He directed Scream 4. Craven also often collaborates with Sean S. Cunningham. In Craven’s debut feature, The Last House on the Left, Cunningham served as producer. Afterwards, in Craven’s most well-known movie, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Cunningham directed among the chase scenes, although uncredited. Afterwards, in The Last House on the Left remake, both Cunningham and Craven share production credits.
