Marilyn French was born on November 21, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA as Marilyn Edwards. She was a writer, known for The Women's Room (1980) and Legends (2006). She was married to Robert M. French Jr. She died on May 2, 2009 in Manhattan, New York City.
Studied philosophy and English literature. Taught at Hofstra University in the 1960s after graduating from there with a master's degree. Earned a doctorate from Harvard after her divorce. She then became an English professor at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts.
