Dale Mitchell was born on August 23, 1921 in Colony, Oklahoma, USA as Loren Dale Mitchell. He was an actor, known for 1949 MLB All-Star Game (1949), 1952 MLB All-Star Game (1952) and 1948 World Series (1948). He died on January 5, 1987 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In the 9th inning of game 5 of the 1956 World Series, with 2 outs, he was brought off the bench to pinch-hit for Sal Maglie. He checked his swing on a pitch that was high, but the umpire indicated strike 3, giving pitcher Don Larsen the only perfect game in World Series history.
