Mr. Brainwash — generally written MBW — is a name used by Paris-born, Los Angeles-based self-proclaimed filmmaker and road artist Thierry Guetta. Guetta doesn’t usually have much physical participation in the building of the art imputed to him; he passes thoughts to his creative team, mainly graphical designers. Mimicking his associate Banksy, Guetta uses well-known artistic and historical pictures, a lot of which are copyrighted, transforming them in sometimes small, sometimes important manners. Several critics have noted that his works powerfully emulate the styles and theories of Banksy, and have theorized that Guetta is an elaborate prank staged by Banksy, who could have created the works himself.
