Efren Reyes net worth, biography and wiki:
Efren Manalang Reyes, OLD, PLH (created August 26, 1954) is a Filipino professional pool player as well as a two time world champion.
After creating himself as a victor, he was found by promoters. This gave him the chance to compete in big time tournaments. During the 1980s, when Reyes was considered a top-class player in his birthplace although not yet globally understood, he went to the U.S. to hustle. Popular legend asserts that Reyes brought in US$80,000 in a week; this effort made him a folk hero back home. Reyes started winning numerous tournaments in the U.S., Europe and parts of Asia. So, he began to get interest and recognition world-wide. At the beginning of his career, he used aliases to conceal his identity so he’d be permitted to compete. From the mid-1990s, he’d become among the elite players of the Philippines, alongside Jose Parica and Francisco Bustamante. A couple of years afterwards, Efren Reyes and Earl Strickland were selected to confront each other in a event known as the Color of Money, named following the film. The event was a three-day race-to-120 challenge match of 9 ball. It had been held in Hong Kong, having a winner take all prize of US$100,000. Reyes won the match 120-117. This is the biggest single-winning purse in a pool occasion. This tournament had not been recognized at that time by the WPA, but Reyes was after retrospectively admitted as the victor of one of two world championships held in 1999. The two tournaments were combined for the next year, with both guys recorded as the winner for 1999. At that time, the Matchroom Sport-organized event in Cardiff, Wales, was known as the World Professional Pool Championship (despite the entry of several nonprofessional players).
