More recently he founded the technology investment firm Atomico and is now an important figurehead for entrepreneurs in the tech sector. Zennstrm can also be the cofounder of the charity organization Zennstrm Philanthropies.
Zennstrm’s most remarkable success to date is Skype, a telephony business according to peer to peer principles. Zennstrm was CEO from Skype’s start until September 2007. Following the selling of Skype, Zennstrm went on in 2007 to establish Joost, a web-based video distribution service (where Zennstrm was co-chairman). In 2009 Zennstrm was part of the investment association that purchased Skype Technologies from eBay and rejoined the Skype board. Now, Zennstrm runs Atomico. Based in London, the company mainly invests in fast growing technology firms together with the capacity to transform their specific sectors. Through Atomico they’ve invested in more than 50 firms on four continents, including Supercell, Rovio, Last.fm, FON, Rdio, Fab, Klarna and Skype.
