She was a principal person in the Medelln Cartel as well as the mentor of Pablo Escobar. In 1984, Blanco’s readiness to make use of violence against her Miami competitions, or anyone who displeased her, led her opponents to make continued efforts to kill her. She moved to California to escape the assassination efforts. On 20 February 1985, she was arrested by DEA agents in her house. Held without bond, Blanco was sentenced to over a decade in jail. She continued to run her cocaine company while in jail. By forcing one of her lieutenants, the Miami Dade State Attorney’s Office got satisfactory evidence to indict her for three homicides. Before her departure in the year 2012, she was last seen in Bogota Airport in May 2007. In line with the Miami New Times, “Michael’s dad and older siblings were all killed before he reached maturity. His mother was in prison for the majority of his youth and teen years, and he was raised by his maternal grandmother and legal guardians.”
