He attended Brown and Yale Universities and started in films in the early 1930s, working primarily for Warner Brothers, Universal and 20th Century Fox. He was married to the actresses Beth Milton and Joan Marsh. Belden is best known for his three-act play "The Mystery of the Wax Museum", twice filmed as "House of Wax".
