Ruth Winifred Cracknell AM (6 July 1925 – 13 May 2002) was an Australian character actress and author, her career encompassing many genres including radio, television, film, and especially theatre. She appeared in many dramatic as well as comedy roles throughout a career spanning some 56 years.
Is, as of 2010, the only woman to be inducted into the Australian television hall of fame.

Has honorary doctorates from the University of Sydney and Queensland University of Technology.

Appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 1980

Published a second autobiographical book, entitled "Journey From Venice", beginning with the funeral of her husband, and detailing their last holiday together.
