Essentially played the same roles as Nella Walker or Marjorie Gateson, namely society matrons, gossipy spinsters or kindly mothers. She began her career on stage at the age of sixteen. She was later a leading lady with touring stock companies in San Francisco, Oakland, Salt Lake City, Washington, D.C., and Portland, Maine. She then had a ten-year run on Broadway from 1924, before commencing her Hollywood career.
