Jim Nabors Bio/Wiki, Net Worth, Married 2018
James Thurston “Jim” Nabors (created June 12, 1930) is an American actor and vocalist. Born and raised in Sylacauga, Alabama, Nabors moved to southern California due to his asthma. While working at a Santa Monica club, The Horn, he was found by Andy Griffith and afterwards joined “The Andy Griffith Show”, playing Gomer Pyle. The character proved popular, and Nabors was given his own spinoff show, “Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.”. He later recorded numerous albums and singles, the majority of these including intimate ballads.
Nabors is also famous for singing “Back Home Again in Indiana,” prior to the beginning of the Indianapolis 500, held annually on the Memorial Day Weekend. Except for several absences as a result of health or alternative struggles, Nabors sang the unofficial Indiana anthem annually from 1972 until his closing time in 2014.
The show, which put Nabors’ bungling, innocent character opposite Sergeant Vince Carter (Frank Sutton), also proved popular. Despite its run through the Vietnam War, a time of “deep disillusionment with war as well as the military,” Gomer Pyle stayed popular because it avoided war-related topics and rather centered on the show’s rural origins as well as the relationship between Pyle and Sgt. Carter. Nabors stepped down from Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. after five seasons—prompting producers Aaron Ruben and Sheldon Leonard to request CBS to cancel it—because he wanted to go to something else, “reach for another rung on the ladder, either upward or down.”
