Juan Moreno y Herrera-Jimnez (created 30 July 1948), known as Jean Reno (French pronunciation:[ eno]), is a French performer. After he began to get acting work in France, Juan embraced the French version, Jean, of his name, and shortened his surname to Reno. He afterwards appeared in romantic comedies and action films. He started his movie career in France, appearing in several movies by director Luc Besson, including his early Le dernier combat (1985). The two have continued to work together, collaborating in movies made, written or directed by Besson. Of their combined work, those which have reached the most critical and commercial success comprise: Nikita (1990), as well as the English language movies The Big Blue (1988) and Lon: The Professional (1994). Reno did the voice-over for Mufasa in the French-language edition of The Lion King, a character originally performed in English by James Earl Jones in the American movie. Reno turned down the part of Agent Smith in The Matrix. In 2006, Reno had a notable part in the remake of The Pink Panther and its own sequel, playing Gilbert Ponton, opposite Steve Martin as Inspector Clouseau. He impersonated Captain Bezu Fache in the Ron Howard movie The Da Vinci Code. Among his most successful movies are Les Visiteurs and L’Enqute corse. In other media, Reno was involved in the creation of the next episode in the most popular PlayStation 2 collection Onimusha (Onimusha 3: Demon Siege), giving his likeness to the protagonist Jacques Blanc, in addition to supplying the voice for the character’s French dialogue. In marketing work, Reno has appeared in American television advertisements for UPS and impersonated Doraemon in a set of Toyota advertisements in Japan, within the “ReBorn” effort.
