2Bearden served with the Navy in WWII. He suffered a fractured skull and knee when his ship, the USS Helena, was sunk in the South Pacific. He was discharged with a plate in his skull and a pin in his knee. In 1948, his rookie year, he pitched the Indians to victory over the Red Sox in a one-game playoff for the AL pennant. Subsequently, he won Game 3 of the 1948 World Series with the Boston Braves, and got the save in the decisive Game 6.

4Finished 8th in voting for 1948 American League MVP for leading League in ERA (2.43).
