Floyd Gibbons was born on July 16, 1887 in Washington, District of Columbia, USA as Floyd Phillips Gibbons. He was an actor and writer, known for Attic of Terror (1937), The Human Bomb (1939) and The Fighting Judge (1938). He died on September 23, 1939 in Washington.
Lost his left eye as one of three wounds he received at the Battle of Belleau Wood during World War I. He was a journalist but was attempting to save a wounded U.S. Marine.

In 1941 he posthumously awarded a Gold Medal by the Marine Corps League State Commandant. This made him an honorary member of the Marine Corp. This had never been done before.
