Alan Spencer is an American television writer and producer, known for creating the 1980s satirical police series Sledge Hammer!. He was one of the youngest people ever to join the Writers Guild of America, writing for television at the age of fifteen. He is a "script doctor" for feature films.
Was a friend of legendary offbeat comedian Andy Kaufman, who invited Spencer over to his house on one occasion and subjected him to a 48-hour marathon of The People's Court (1981) episodes Kaufman had recorded.

As featured in "Creative Screenwriting" magazine, is a highly sought after "script doctor" and dialog "punch-up" specialist for feature films. The article listed Spencer alongside such top writers as Scott Frank, Kenneth Lonergan and Ed Solomon as the best rewrite men in the business.

As a teenager, sneaked onto the set of Young Frankenstein (1974) and subsequently befriended Marty Feldman. Over a decade later, Spencer was tapped by his hero Mel Brooks to co-create a short-lived TV series.
