Adam Matthew Vinatieri (born December 28, 1972) is an American football placekicker for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL). He has played in five Super Bowls, four with the New England Patriots and one with the Colts. Though the Colts made it to a second Super Bowl with Vinatieri on the roster, Vinatieri missed the game due to injury, and Matt Stover kicked in his place. Vinatieri won Super Bowls in 2001, 2003, and 2004 with the Patriots, as well in 2006 with the Colts. He is the first kicker ever to win four Super Bowl rings.Vinatieri has been called "Mr. Clutch" by the media due to his reputation for success when kicking under pressure during his tenure in the National Football League. Nicknamed "Automatic Adam" for his accuracy, and "Iceman" for his poise under pressure, Vinatieri has converted several of the most crucial field goals in NFL history, including the game-tying and -winning kicks in blizzard conditions in the infamous "Tuck Rule Game", and game-winning kicks in the final seconds of two Super Bowls (XXXVI, XXXVIII).

On 19 January 2002, in a playoff game against the Oakland Raiders on a snow-covered field, Vinatieri kicked a 45-yard field goal that tied the game at 13-13. The Patriots won the game 16-13 (on another Vinatieri field goal) and went on to win their first Super Bowl. "Kick-Starting a Dynasty" was ranked #7 in TV Guide's list of the "25 Most Awesome Sports Moments (of the last 15 years)". [17 July 2005 issue]
2
Descendant of Felix Vinatieri, who fought alongside General George Custer at the Battle of Little Big Horn.
He had never missed a field goal inside a dome stadium in his career until the Patriots played the Houston Texans in November 2003 inside Reliant Stadium. Vinitiari missed two FG tries, but kicked the game-winning FG near the end of overtime, helping the Patriots win 23-20. Reliant Stadium would prove a personal house of horrors for Vinitiari again in Superbowl XXXVIII against the Carolina Panthers. Vinitiari missed a FG try and a second try was blocked by Panthers player Shane Burton, both in the game's first quarter, but as in Superbowl XXXVI he kicked the winning FG at the end of regulation.
