# Quote 1 United we stand; divided we fall. 2 The injuries we do and those we suffer are seldom weighed in the same scales. 3 You may share the labors of the great, but you will not share the spoil. 4 Familiarity breeds contempt. 5 Self-conceit may lead to self-destruction. 6 I am sure the grapes are sour. 7 The shaft of the arrow had been feathered with one of the eagle's own plumes. We often give our enemies the means of our own destruction. 8 People often grudge others what they cannot enjoy themselves. 9 Beware lest you lose the substance by grasping at the shadow. 10 Union gives strength. 11 It is thrifty to prepare today for the wants of tomorrow. 12 Be content with your lot; one cannot be first in everything. 13 The gods help them that help themselves. 14 Put your shoulder to the wheel. 15 What a splendid head, yet no brain. 16 We hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office. 17 The smaller the mind the greater the conceit. 18 Persuasion is often more effectual than force. 19 Never trust the advice of a man in difficulties. 20 It is with our passions, as it is with fire and water, they are good servants but bad masters. 21 It is easy to be brave from a safe distance. 22 In critical moments even the very powerful have need of the weakest. 23 Better be wise by the misfortunes of others than by your own. 24 Better poverty without care, than riches with a worried life. 25 Clothes may disguise a fool, but his words give him away.
