Amy Roberta (Berta) Ruck, Mrs. Oliver Onions (b. 2 August 1878 – d. 11 August 1978) was a British writer of several short stories and over 90 romance novels from 1905 to 1972. She also wrote an autobiography and two memoir-style works.
Berta (the name is short for Roberta) was a close friend of E. Nesbit, who used the name Roberta for the eldest girl in The Railway Children (1970).

She and her husband were newlyweds when one night she combed her hair; Oliver noticed that the crackling caused by the static was a unique sound. It inspired his 1911 story "The Beckoning Fair One," considered by many to be the best ghost story ever written.
